SUMMARY:FTI 181 Respiratory Protection TTT 08172023
DESCRIPTION:16 Hours \nAccording to OSHA\, millions of workers are required to wear respirators in various workplaces throughout the United States. IUPAT members will likely be exposed to hazardous chemicals during their work at some point. In some cases\, dangerous amounts of these chemicals may contaminate the air and be made worse when work is being conducted in an enclosed or confined space. When engineering controls have been employed and there are still toxic levels of gases\, vapors\, aerosols or\, a lack of oxygen in work areas\, respirators are often the last means of defense. When respirator use is required\, workers will need appropriate training to ensure respirators are the right type\, in good repair and used correctly. OSHA has published a specific standard\, 29 CFR1910.134 Respiratory Protection (Note: the construction industry respiratory protection standard 29 CFR 1926.103 uses the general industry standard-they are identical) that this course follows. \nIn this course\, our members will learn about the respiratory protection standard\, employer’s responsibilities\, respirator programs\, airborne hazards\, types of respirators\, and how to appropriately select\, inspect\, don and doff respirators. The class will include facilitated lectures\, small group tabletop activities and hands-on exercises. Participants will be required to\npass a short test. \nCourse Objectives: Course Objectives: After completing this class members will be able to:\n•    Use the OSHA respirator standard to look up information\n•    Explain the importance of a respirator program\n•    Give three reasons for using respirators\n•    List the two main types of respirators and explain how they work\n•    State limitations for various respirators\n•    List three considerations when choosing a respirator\n•    Use the NIOSH respirator decision logic\, NIOSH Pocket Guide\, Max Use Concentrations\, and applicable standards to select an appropriate respirator for a given contaminant and work task\n•    Explain the process for inspecting respirators\n•    Don and doff selected respirators\n•    Perform a user seal check\n•    Name two reasons for poor respirator fit\n•    Explain respirator maintenance and storage requirements \nPrerequisite: none \nENROLL NOW: Ask your DOT to complete the DOT Request – Training Registration Form. You can fill out the Instructor/Coordinator Training Registration Form but the request will be forwarded to your DOT for approval.
